Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Marine Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide variety of marine vessels and their systems, including inboard, outboard, and diesel engines. The Marine Mechanic will ensure that all watercraft are operating safely and efficiently while providing excellent customer service.
Hours and Pay: During season (April to October) Position will be 40 + hours a week 7 days a week with scheduled days off. Pay will be based on experience. Off season ( November to April) is M-F 35 to 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspections and Diagnostics: Thoroughly inspect boats and marine engines to identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues. Use diagnostic tools and test equipment to accurately troubleshoot problems.
Repair and Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, and system checks. Conduct complex repairs and component replacements for engines, transmissions, propellers, steering, and electrical systems.
System Installations: Install new engines, electronics (e.g., GPS, radar, VHF radios), and other equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
Sea Trials: Conduct performance tests on vessels in the water to ensure all repairs and installations function correctly.
Record-Keeping and Communication: Maintain detailed, accurate records of all work performed, parts used, and service history. Communicate effectively with customers to explain technical issues, repair needs, and cost estimates.
Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and industry standards, including those from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC).
Housekeeping: Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Technical training from a vocational school or community college specializing in marine mechanics is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a marine mechanic is preferred. Experience with various engine types (outboard, inboard, diesel) is highly desirable.
Certifications: Manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Mercury Marine, Yamaha, Volvo Penta) and/or ABYC certifications are highly preferred.
Tools: Must possess a complete range of commonly used mechanic's tools.
Licensing: A valid driver's license is required.
